Jackson Reginald Pattison - Six Months! And our family running fiasco.

Today our sweet baby brown, our baby dog, is six months old! So today has become Jackson day.

This week, Jackson found a mouse in the backyard then found a MASSIVE caterpillar (he refrained from eating either), he found half eaten oreos near the lake, and he attempted to go for a family run. I will now expand on the family run...

Jackson and I run together every couple of days and he has been doing really well with it.  There are the few times when he smells something and immediately stops or sees a flower petal float by and wants to chase it, but other than that he maintains focus on runs way better than on our usual walks. Well, Ben came back from work decently early one day this week so we decided to go for a family run. Two seconds in, Jackson was not able to focus as he was just so excited that Ben was home and he wanted to jump all over him. After a few minutes of this, I decided to tell Ben to run ahead of us and that I would calm Jackson down and continue our run a little behind him (BIG MISTAKE!). Once Ben ran off, Jackson lost it (remember..he is no longer a mama's boy - all allegiances are for Ben now). Jackson started to cry and began to sprint after Ben in attempts to catch up. Now, I used to sprint. The key words there are "used to". I have not sprinted any significant distance in years, but for some reason I thought "yeah, Jackson! If we sprint we can catch back up to him and all of this will be okay!" (that was the colossal mistake). Jackson and I spent the rest of the run sprinting, I tried to slow down many a time, but the puppy who is now 50-60 lbs decided this was not a part of his agenda. He would sprint until he caught up with dad and he would not stop until then. He also cried the entire time as Ben was just out of reach (and listening to loud music so he couldn't hear the panting/yelling of his name). Oh, and to top it off, this was the usual after work time and the first time in months that the temperature was in the 80s at night so everyone was out walking the neighborhood..as Jackson and I sprinted and I yelled "BEN STOP! JACKSON SLOW DOWN". I'm sure it was a sight to see. Eventually (back at the house) we caught up with Ben and I practiced the skill of tag-teaming, aka, I threw Ben the leash, told him I needed to be separated from Jackson for a few minutes, and needed to be alone in the backyard as the feeling of fire in my lungs subsided. Jackson and I made up and I informed Ben that there might not ever be family runs again unless he takes Jackson (or I get in better shape and can sprint a mile easily).

So that was the excitement of the week living with Jackson. We haven't run again since the incident and I'm a bit nervous about trying to meet new people in the neighborhood.

And now for some throwbacks of our time with Mr. Brown.

(to give you an idea of how much baby dog has grown)

But, he's still a baby. In the middle of writing this post he came and sat in my lap just because.
